Welcome to Spreacombe

Tucked away in a quiet North Devon valley, Spreacombe offers the perfect setting to unwind and relax.

We have a farm, woodland, and a pond conservation area.

As soon as you arrive at our ancient stone pillars you pass into woodland and the peaceful atmosphere begins to take hold, This is a place to breathe deeply and leave the rush of everyday life behind.

Our sheep are peaceful in the meadows, our trees are restful in the woodlands and local wildlife enjoy our conservation areas.

Whether you're here for a short escape or a longer stay, you'll find comfort in the stillness, the sounds of birdsong, and the gentle sway of trees. We're here on site  and happy to field questions but your time is your own. With the basics ready for your first cup of tea or coffee, the rest of the holiday is yours to enjoy, wander, rest, read, or simply be.

Countryside Walks from Your Door

From your cottage, you can step straight into the landscape. Guests are welcome to explore the fields, meadows, and woodland that make up Spreacombe Estate. Whether you follow one of our suggested walks to the ponds or RSPB Chapel Wood, or simply roam with a camera in hand, there’s always something beautiful to discover.

Depending on the season, you might spot our resident flock of sheep with their lambs, or catch glimpses of local wildlife from deer to buzzards. Dogs are welcome too, we just ask that they’re kept under control around livestock and wildlife, and that gates are left as found.

Many families return year after year, sharing the peace of Spreacombe across generations.

Spreacombe Farm Stay

We are active farmers, farming in a fairly low impact, environmentally friendly way.  You may see young lambs in the fields whilst standing in your front lawn.

Here at Spreacombe we have around 60 ewes (the number changes from year to year) and we would aim to lamb them all in the Spring.  The lambing is carried out indoors, for our ease but then mother and lamb(s) are moved to the fields as soon as possible, this is their preference.

If you holiday with us in the Spring you may see young lambs skipping around in the local meadows.  You may see the farmer giving them supplements or a pedicure.

Sometimes, especially into summer, the sheep are moved to a field slightly further away from the cottages that offers more shade alongside a winding stream.  In this case you may just forget that we have animals at all.  Please do ask us where it is safe to have your dog off lead.

Caring for Our Woodlands

Spreacombe Estate has been in the Dennis family for over 50 years, with much of the woodland planted by hand. Norman, who knows every path and tree, has nurtured these woods with care, preserving their history while planting for the future.

The estate includes a mix of conifer and broadleaf woodland, from centuries-old beech trees to newer plantations of flowering cherry and native species. In recent years, we've planted over 16,000 trees as part of our commitment to biodiversity, beauty, and a smaller carbon footprint.

The result is a living, breathing landscape that grows and changes with the seasons and one we’re proud to share with our guests.

Your Hosts

Georgina and James are your current hosts, having taken the majority of the day job from  Norman and Diana who started the holiday business in the 1970's .

James and I can often be seen around the Estate, tending to the sheep or walking our dog. On our days off we frequently head to the cliff path walks or the beaches.

All four of us live on site and have formed many friendships with our guests over the years, many of whom have been coming since we opened.

Discover the rich natural and human history of Spreacombe Valley – from Iron Age roots to peaceful nature haven in North Devon.
