Step outside your cottage and into a world of woodland trails, wildflower meadows, and quiet valley paths.
Spreacombe Gardens sits at the heart of a wildlife-rich corner of North Devon, a place where you can walk for hours without needing your car, maybe spot hare or deer in the fields, and hear birdsong from dawn to dusk. For walkers, wildlife enthusiasts, and nature-loving families, there’s no better base.

Walks from Your Doorstep
Leave the car keys behind. At Spreacombe, we have a number of gentle, scenic walking routes through woodland and farmland. Popular routes include:
- A circular loop to RSPB Chapel Wood and back via the meadow.
- A meadow walk to our private pond and nature area, look for ducklings, goslings and tadpoles in the Spring
- A woodland stroll up our stony track, keep an eye open for deer and hare
- Early morning or twilight walks perfect for deer spotting
Paths are varied but mostly manageable for all ages. Dogs are welcome, please just respect our sheep and wildlife.

Birdwatching and Wildlife Spotting
You don’t need to go far to find wildlife here, just open your window.
Guests often mention spotting:
- Buzzards, owls, and kestrels overhead
- Woodpeckers, finches, robins and seasonal migratory birds
- Roe deer, red deer, and even hares
RSPB Chapel Wood is just a 15-minute walk from the cottages and is home to ancient oak trees, nesting birds, and quiet woodland glades. Don’t forget your binoculars and your camera.
