Holidays

We are spoilt in this area of Devon; the outstanding countryside and stunning coastline makes for excellent activities and daytrips alike. Here is just a glimpse of what your holiday from Spreacombe could include:

Woodland retreat

Spreacombe is just that. A place that rarely changes over the years, a place that you can stroll amongst the trees and appreciate nature at its best. Our cottages back onto woodland, we have private ponds that you are welcome to walk around and our own entrance to RSPB Chapel Wood.

Come and stay for a short break or longer holiday.

Walking, rock pooling, surfing, body boarding and sunbathing

The beaches of North Devon, and our area in particular have golden sand, fun waves and the cliff walks are spectacular. Take a look at our specific pages for more information.

Cycling

The Tarka off road cycle trail is just a few miles from here offering safe, easy cycling for your holiday.

Sight Seeing

One of our local villages, Braunton, has a heritage centre, surfing museum, library and supermarkets as well as other shops and services. Four miles farther on is the 'capital' of North Devon, Barnstaple, with its historic Pannier Market and along the coast from Woolacombe is the pretty village of Mortehoe.

The nearby holiday resort of Ilfracombe has a picturesque harbour with surrounding Tors and offers a host of activities. From here you can take boat trips along the coast or a day trip to Lundy Island on board the MV Oldenburg.
You will probably also want to explore the Exmoor National Park - Lorna Doone country - a fifteen mile drive from your holiday cottage to the north, and the famous village of Clovelly with its steep cobbled streets. And if that's not enough, there are plenty of local visitor attractions - from roses to rollercoasters - to appeal to everyone.

Fishing

Ilfracombe is a working harbour. It's from here that you can experience a sea fishing trip or stay on dry land and buy some of the freshest locally caught fish. Rock pooling - well we would suggest Saunton Sands rock pools as being the best in the area.

If you prefer inland fishing, there are farms nearby that offer day permits for trout or coarse fishing.  Ask for further details.

Golf

The local area hosts many golf courses of different standards ranging from Saunton Golf Club's championship courses to many "Pitch and Putts" - something to suit every standard.

Surfing

Surfing lessons are available at Woolacombe, Croyde (10 minutes by car) and Saunton. People of all ages are now togging up in hired wetsuits and trying out a lesson. The more sedate body boarding is also hugely popular. All types of boards and wetsuits can be hired or bought at most beach locations.
