Conservation Project

Bat Conservation at Spreacombe.

As part of our conservation plan we have recently put 10 bat boxes into the woods.

The plans for the boxes were provided by our forestry consultant with specific measurements, wood requirements and location advice.

Luckily a neighbouring estate have a saw mill and were happy to sell the required untreated wood to us - (most wood for sale has been chemically treated).

So, armed with the specified wooden planks, we have measured, sawn, measured, drilled and created.

The boxes have gaps of different widths to accommodate different bat species and are now located on trees, in clusters in easily bat accessible locations in Hook Wood.

We are now at the “wait and see” stage.   Hopefully we have provided exactly what the bats want and need.
