New Year's Walk

We would like to wish you a Happy 2018  from the team at Spreacombe.  I'm attaching this photo that our friend Archie took on New Year's Day. We parked behind the sand dunes at Woolacombe and walked to Putsborough along the beach to blow the cobwebs of the previous year away.  After a round of hot chocolates and coffees in the Putsborough beach cafe we walked back to the cars along the more sheltered bridleway within the dunes. Dogs and humans all felt well exercised and relaxed.   We would love to see you back here again this year, we open at Easter,  but hope that your holidays, wherever...

I love this photo because it makes me smile. A whole group of us walked to Heddon's Mouth from Hunters Inn. The walk on National Trust land follows the path of the stream through a deep wooded valley and opens out into a pebble beach where we all started creating "art" with the stones, just like the people before us and just like we probably will do next time we are there.  Its not as easy as it looks to get a reasonable tower and having the spaniels with us certainy wasn't helping.  We're closed now for winter, as usual, but if you come to stay next summer I would certainly consider this as...

Anyone for garlic

Well we couldn't believe it when we walked through this wood, wild garlic for as far as we could see.   I haven't ever seen a display like this. Hopefully it will be an omen for a great summer ???

Bluebell Time of Year

I went around RSPB Chapel Wood on Friday, essentially to see why our sheep in the next door field were making so much noise and was delighted to see such a show of bluebells.  We have them in clumps throughout many of our woods, alongside wild garlic and primroses but the top of Chapel Wood had a display worth the uphill walk...   .....oh and the sheep were fine - a mother had temporarily mislaid her lamb, which to be honest at the lamb equivalent of a teenager,  didn't look all that bothered.
